Lauren grew up in Wisconsin in the only mid-century style home on her street, whose architectural significance was lost on her, until she studied residential design, years later. Through her childhood, Lauren's mother, a New York City intellectual, worked in museums and her father was an avocational musician. Growing up around quirky, artistic people, Lauren knew early on that she was artistic, herself, and she wanted to become a fashion designer.
Making her way at an early age, Lauren learned to pay her bills, while following her own interests. At age 19 she managed a women's fashion store in L.A., where she created all the window displays, bought the merchandise, and managed a staff of 12 employees.
Lauren moved to Laguna Beach at age 24 unaware of the town's artistic history. But she felt it was a magical place and she wanted to be part of it.
After marrying, Lauren decided to try her hand at acting, and she acted in both film and stage for a period of time. However, she soon discovered that she was more interested in the stage sets than in the acting. This interest segued into painting interior murals in residences in Laguna Beach, being commissioned to paint, and ultimately, interior designing.
